Pavla Cveckova
With vast experience in the field on a national as well as international level, I offer highly skilled psychotherapy to individuals and groups in my private practice. I am also a Senior Psychological Therapist for a highly specialist forensic service in London treating high and very high-risk adults with personality difficulties who are involved in the criminal justice system. I supervise other psychologists and psychotherapists as well as provide specialist group and individual consultations to probation offices and approved premises.
In my private practice, I work with a wider spectrum of people experiencing everything from mental and emotional distress to major life changes, as well as those who are seeking to make more meaning in their lives or gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
I provide a safe and supportive environment in which you can make positive changes to your way of being - in relation to yourself, others, and the wider world.
HOW I WORK
I refrain from pathologising clients and instead, I work with the individual towards understanding the meaning of their distressing symptoms. I view emotions, including the painful ones, as signals, messages that can help us progress towards personal growth and change. Experiencing these unpleasant feelings might open up the door to positive experiences of growth and self-discovery.
I work through a mix of verbal exploration as well as more creative and expressive techniques such as 'action methods' and the arts. I draw on modalities such as compassion-focused therapy, positive psychology, and DBT with the main emphasis on the power of spontaneity and creativity that lies in Psychodrama psychotherapy. I provide safe therapeutic holding where you can gain insight into your challenges, work through them and heal them at your pace.
My aim in this is to support you in accessing your own innate wisdom and personal sense of direction. There is no need for you to have any previous experience in the arts to work in this way. It is part of my role to help make this way of working accessible to you.
All potential clients are offered a free fifteen-minute telephone discussion before deciding whether or not to attend an initial consultation session in which we will explore your reasons for seeking psychotherapy and what approach (group or one-to-one) would be most appropriate.
MY PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION
I am a highly experienced UKCP-accredited integrative psychotherapist, having completed an in-depth five-year training in Psychodrama, Group & Individual Psychotherapy at the Maudsley Hospital, London.
Over the last twenty years, I have trained and worked in a variety of creative approaches to psychological therapy. I originally completed a Diploma in Social work between 2003 and 2005. Since then I have gone on to complete a BSc in Social Pedagogy (Probation and Mediation) and a BSc in Theatre in Education (2005 - 2008) which also enabled me to work through Augusto Boal’s Theatre of The Oppressed techniques and methods with the marginalised communities. This was followed by M.A. in Applied Theatre (2010), and an advanced postgraduate diploma in Psychodrama, Group & Individual Psychotherapy. Further to this, I am currently in the preliminary stages of training in Somatic Experiencing at the SOS Internationale to enhance the effectiveness of my treatment methods by attending to the physiological signs of unprocessed trauma.
I offer one-to-one sessions as well as a group therapy running every Saturday morning. To learn more, I invite you to get in touch with me. I am very happy to answer your questions.
