Dr Pádraig Cotter
Dr Pádraig Cotter BA., MSc., D Psych Sc. Clinical Psychologist | Relationship & Group Facilitator | Performance & Culture Coach
Psychological therapy, facilitation and coaching for individuals, couples, teams and organisations.
My Training and Background
I started training in psychology in 2005 and Clinical Psychology in 2013. I have a Doctorate in Psychological Science and received training in CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Practices and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have also spent a lot of time training in Process Oriented Psychology (POP) or ‘Process Work’.
I am registered with the Health Care and Professionals Council (HCPC).
In addition to private practice, I have worked in the NHS, as a psychologist and facilitator, within Adult Mental Health, Adult Inpatient Mental Health and Clinical Health Psychology (Psycho-oncology and Cancer Care).
Over time, I have also come to see how useful psychology is outside the therapy room, that working systemically (teams, groups, culture) has many advantages, and supporting people in positions of power very important. This led me to working with elite performers, leaders and their organisations.
My Overarching Perspective
When working with individuals, couples, and groups I focus on supporting people in understanding and being themselves. This helps people to live life in a way is that better for themselves and those around them.
My approach is largely integrative, drawing on different ways of working at different times. My aim is to co-create a bespoke piece of work that is guided by you and your unique way of being in the world. I travel this journey with you and help you in finding your own way forward.
An important part of my role is supporting you to look at your situation or difficulty with fresh eyes, from a different angle or from a part of yourself you don’t currently have access to. From here, different answers, viewpoints and ways forward present themselves.
Who do I work with?
I work with individuals and couples over 18 years of age.
I work with people who wish to receive help with issues such as the following (but not limited to):
Anxiety, panic attacks and stress
Depression, emotional detachment and hopelessness
Relationship and interpersonal difficulties
Concerns regarding identity (e.g. sexual orientation, gender, career choices)
Trauma ranging from single incidents to cumulative and complex
Low self-esteem or self-confidence
Medically unexplained symptoms
Adjustment to physical health conditions
Impact of inequality and discrimination (e.g. racism, sexism, disability)
Bereavement or loss
I also work with elite performers, leaders and their organisations via performance, leadership and culture coaching.
