About Me
My experience is as an attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist, registered as a professional member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis section). I adhere to their code of ethics and keep up with their recommendations for best practice.
My original training was at the Bowlby Centre (Centre for Attachment-based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy) where I now teach psychotherapy trainees and am currently Chair of the Board of Trustees. I am also involved with the Group Analytic Society International, the Relational School and the Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the NHS.
You might be looking to start a psychotherapy to address something specific or you may find feel a more general need to understand yourself better. Either way, I work to reach the heart of what may be going on. My aim is for the effect of psychotherapy to endure in the long term.
People have come to me with a wide variety of things to work on, including anxiety, depression, childhood issues, relationship difficulties, work troubles, grief, repetitive behaviours, addictions, eating disorders, dissociation, and psychiatric diagnoses. I am always struck by how distress connects to everyday life as well as deeper questions of what feels right and true.
Often people describe psychotherapy as a profound experience. It can feel strange at first and so I am careful about choosing an appropriate way for us to work together. I do think about your history in so far as it is meaningful for your current life. My intention is to offer you greater self-insight and freedom.
The type of psychotherapy I practise draws on the most recent developments in the psychoanalytic tradition as well as attachment theory. This means that I have a particular eye for the context of relationships and human needs.
Initial meetings
Starting psychotherapy in itself can feel strange. For one thing, it can be hard to know what you are looking for in a therapist. I recommend taking your time and I offer a package of £100 for two initial consultations. You’re welcome to come and discuss anything you like, but there’s no need for any special preparation if you don’t have something clear in mind.
Structure
Consultations are 50 minutes long. Everything is confidential. I practise in the City of London, Islington and Oxford Circus at quiet locations very convenient for tube stations.
